Gawr Gura Quest for Bread Quest for Bread walkthrough
A campaign-first route that treats hats as a second lap.
Gawr Gura: Quest for Bread is linear enough to walk through without a 40-page dungeon atlas. Steam sells a two-hour campaign with unique bosses and optional hats. This page is the story-forward line. Use How to Play for verbs and the hat tracker when you come back for 100%.
The premise, without ruining the jokes
Gura loses a baguette at home. Amelia Watson, the time-traveling detective of hololive Myth, tries to fix it by jumping the timeline. Time travel goes wrong — as these stories do — and Gura is stranded in unfamiliar territory. You play the stranded shark. The Steam copy is explicit that inside jokes are everywhere and that you do not need stream knowledge to finish. That is the correct attitude for a first run: laugh at the line, then jump.
A captured scene shows Gura in her blue hoodie, Amelia in coat and tie, and Ninomae Ina’nis in a haloed kimono on a wet platform with a red torii behind them. Gura’s dialogue box asks how anyone knew their pickle was the interdimensional variety. Treat scenes like that as rest rooms. The trident is on the ground in that shot; pick it back up mentally before you enter the next death plane.
Lava fortress (the room everyone has footage of)
Kenny’s Next Fest note told players they would jump through a lava fortress, fight a cool boss, and grab a hat or two. The footage that followed is the best public map we have of the movement tax. Gura stands on a grey rock above orange magma. A taller block holds a torch and a hanging chain. A white sphere sits near her feet. The HUD shows her portrait and two bars. Orange is death. Grey is life. Anything off the grey is optional until you can do the grey without thinking.
Clear this space as a movement exam, not a collectathon. If a hat or orb sits on a pillar that needs a spin you have not landed yet, mark it in the hat guide and walk to the next safe rock. The speedrun guide will later ask you to skip the orb entirely.
Myth gates and named fights
Steam originally advertised cameos from all five Myth members. Footage already names one fight: a concert floor packed with cyan skull platforms, pink light columns, a red throne, a health bar labelled Mori Calliope, and Gura’s portrait still glued to the corner. That is a boss, not a hallway. Read the boss guide before you treat skulls like lava rocks. They glow, they crowd, and the camera can hide the named bar.
Other Myth faces show up in dialogue rather than as health bars. Do not assume every cameo is a boss. Do not assume every boss is a talent. Steam’s phrase is “unique and challenging boss fights” — plural, themed, and meant to interrupt the platforming rhythm. When the music and the floor language change, you are in an exam. Save. Then fight.
How to actually route a two-hour game
- Opening and movement tutorial rooms: do not hunt hats. Confirm jump apex using How to Play.
- First hostile geometry (lava, spikes, moving blocks): one optional collectible if it is on the way. Otherwise skip.
- First named fight: treat as a wall. Watch one telegraph cycle. Then commit.
- Mid-game scenery shifts: Kenny’s older public notes mentioned multiple distinct visual spaces. When the palette changes, reset your camera habits. A canyon under a starry bathtub sky does not read like magma.
- Late bosses: same as step 3, plus a hat sweep only if you still have lives and patience.
- Credits, then a second file or chapter select if the game offers it: now the hat tracker and achievements matter.
The demo walkthrough video in the middle of this page is a no-commentary capture of the Next Fest slice. It is not the full campaign. Use it to learn lava reads, then expect more rooms, more jokes, and more health bars in the 27 August 2026 release.
After the credits
If the run felt short, that is the product. Steam lists about two hours; Kenny had warned a solo side project would not be a long game. Open dedicated speedrun mode, sweep hats, and tick the 11 Steam achievements. The review exists for the “is two hours enough” argument. The Guides Hub sends you to whichever of those jobs you still have open.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for first-time shark pilots and 100% hunters.
Does this spoil the ending?
It spoils the premise (lost bread, time travel, Myth cameos) and names Calliope as a fight visible in public footage. It does not narrate the final punchline.
Is the YouTube video the full game?
No. It is a demo walkthrough. The full campaign released 27 August 2026 and is longer than the Next Fest slice.
Where do I go if a boss stops me?
